Scouts believe in putting nature first. We want to protect the environment that we enjoy while camping, hiking, playing, and learning in the great outdoors. In a world facing a climate crisis and alarming rates of wildlife and nature loss, Scouts are leaders in sustainability and climate.
Imagine 50 million Scouts working as active citizens to leave
this world a little better than they found it. That’s the power of our
ground-breaking project: Scouts for the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). The 2030 Agenda for Sustainable
Development, adopted by all United Nations member states in 2015, is set of
goals which we all must aim for if we want to ensure peace and prosperity for
people and for the planet, now and into the future.
Here's how scouts can be involved in and contribute to some of the SDGs:
Environmental protection: Many SDGs, such as Goal 13 (Climate Action) and Goal 14 (Life Below Water), focus on environmental sustainability. Scouts can contribute by engaging in tree planting, clean-up initiatives, and habitat restoration projects.
Health and Well-being: Scouts can promote health and well-being by organizing campaigns on
sanitation, hygiene, and healthy living. This aligns with SDG 3 (Good Health
and Well-being).
Quality Education:
Scouts can support educational initiatives, tutoring programs, and awareness
campaigns to contribute to SDG 4 (Quality Education).
Peacebuilding and Conflict Resolution: Scouting promotes values such as peace, tolerance, and conflict
resolution, aligning with SDG 16 (Peace, Justice, and Strong Institutions).
Innovation and Creativity: Scouts can engage in innovative projects and activities that address
local challenges, contributing to SDG 9 (Industry, Innovation, and
Infrastructure).
By incorporating sustainability principles
into scouting activities, young people can develop a strong sense of
environmental responsibility, leadership, and a commitment to making positive
contributions to the world around them.
Scouts are a great example of sustainability, as they enjoy and discover the world with minimal damage to our nature. We should all learn something from them, and make this world a better place!

ReplyDeleteThis article was very elucidative to me, iniciatives as scouts arent comun in southamerica. I believe that if we had information about how can we contribuite to mainteing our envrironment safe since we are kids, it will be much easier to compromite as adults in sustantability lifes. Developing the sense of comunnity and how little acts can improve our planet is essencial to assecure the next generations.
